WHY DO YOUTH ATHLETES NEED UBF?

The biggest issues we see with strength and conditioning (S&C) for youth athletes is that most trainers are under qualified and under experienced to train youth or the kids and/or parents don't understand what S&C is exactly and why it is so important.

When athletes are young they are in a very advantageous position for skill acquisition, motor patterning and working towards what we call MOVEMENT LITERACY.

Once children reach biological adulthood they are far less able to improve their performance in this way and rely more heavily on weights and fitness training as opposed to movement efficiency to become stronger, fitter and more powerful.

Training youth is about plugging energy leaks, addressing posture, refining movement skills (E.g. acceleration, deceleration, change of direction and running mechanics) and teaching them the essential habits of an elite athlete. Once and only once our youth have achieved movement literacy to we begin to focus on strength and power.
